What are you most proud of when it comes to your Hispanic Heritage?

What I am most proud of is that I speak 3 languages, Garifuna, Spanish, and English. I moved here when I was 8 years old and I am proud that I remember my language, I am fluent in Garifuna.

Tell us something unique about your heritage or country.

One of the things that are unique is that Garifuna are Afro-Caribbean, our language is mixed with African, Arawak and French.

How has Hispanic Culture shaped who you are today?

It has shaped me to be a better person, I look at things differently because of how unique my culture is. I can adapt, when you look at me you wouldn’t know that I am from Honduras or that I am Garifuna.

What is your favorite food from your culture?

I have quite a few of them but one of my favorites is called, Hudutu also called Machuca in Spanish. It is mashed plantain, green and yellow in coconut-based broth with culantro, served with a big piece of fried fish but I eat it without as I am vegan.
